Bass 2010 | Beyond The Ballroom – Mac Arts Centre, Birmingham

As part of the Bass Festival 2010, Beyond the Ballroom celebrated UK Jazz Dance heritage and it’s impact on club culture. To be fair, I knew a little about some of the main players like Dick Jewell who screened his film ‘The Jazz Room’ and  Mark ‘Snowboy’ Cotgrove, who was also signing his new book ‘From Jazz Funk & Fusion to Acid jazz: The History of the UK Jazz Dance Scene’ and certain links/ties to other forms of dancing such as breaking which is a lot closer to my own heritage, but it was a pretty cool event to be asked to photograph and meeting the guys on this scene, some still dancing hard at 52+ years of age, made for a decent sunday afternoon at the new Mac Arts centre in Birmingham. The traditional soaking wet British Summer didn’t help but check out some of the moves these guys pulled off for us…

Bass 2010 | Protest: Fight The Power + Launch – Zellig, Custard Factory

I was recently invited to document the launch party for this years Bass Festival on behalf of Ammo at Punch Records. Here’s a set of images highlighting the launch party and the Protest: Fight The Power exhibition which launched their DNA theme. All took place at the wonderfully fresh and newly opened Zellig building at the Custard Factory in Birmingham, also or formerly known as the Devonshire building.

Of course, I appear in one of the photos. That was taken with my gear by fellow photographer, Clive Blair, who kindly offered to come along and support me as it was my first shoot since the accident. Being part of a network of solid photography professionals is really important to me and really comes good at times of unforeseeable tragedy. So.. enjoy my cameo!

Thank You.

A very quick post to thank every single person who has sent a thought, said a prayer, a card, or made a visit to me since the accident on May 15th. The same to everyone looking out for the other families involved.

On May 15th, myself and two very good friends were hit by a car at speed while we stood in a shop entrance. Our good friend, Joshie, died as a result.

This post is just to explain my recent absence from the site and to express thanks to all! It’s not over by a long shot but every help has made a difference.

Post funeral edit: Thanks to all 720 that were able to attend the funeral to support the family and friends.

Any donations welcome to Midlands Air Ambulance.

Staffordshire Wedding Photography – Dawn and Craig | Izaak Walton’s Cottage, Staffordshire

Let me share some highlights from last week’s wedding over at Izaak Walton’s Cottage in Shallowford, Staffordshire.

Dating back to the 16th century, the cottage is amazing, small, intimate and just right for Friday’s wedding. Thanks to the ladies there for looking after us and also to Michael Jones from Heritage Wedding Cars. It turned out that Michael used to be Dawn’s boss, until he semi retired and started up Heritage Wedding Cars, unbeknownst to Dawn who was pleasantly surprised when he arrived at her house!

Also… When the car arrived, which was a beautiful Daimler Limousine, she discovered it was named Elizabeth, her own middle name… It’s the little details that make it special! That’s what I love about wedding photography, sharing those special moments and the happiness that follows.

If you were a guest at the wedding, send me a message via the  contact form and I’ll let you know the details for the full gallery which will be available very soon!

Birmingham Wedding Photography – Charmaine and Darius | Winson Green

A great set of images from my wedding shoot from last Saturday in Birmingham, at the Kingdom Hall in Winson Green.

Darius, a massive car fan, definitely pulled out the stops with the Rolls Royce Phantom, and Charmaine was beautiful, composed and relaxed -so you can image how happy he was! Straight after the ceremony they jumped in the Phantom and drove to Gatwick to fly off for the honeymoon,  so look out for the photos from the reception in May!

If you were a guest at the wedding, send me a message via the  contact form and I’ll let you know the details for the full gallery which will be available very soon!
